The UCD Earth Institute held a showcase event on 16th Jan. to present the breadth of research activity taking place in the institute. The Earth Institute is UCD’s Institute for environmental research, fostering interdisciplinary research within and beyond UCD through an active programme of events and activities, bringing researchers together across different disciplines, to start new conversations, spark new ideas and support new initiatives
The event consisted of 4 workshops focusing on issues such as the sustainably of Irish towns, using Earth Observation satellite data, working with local authorities and the many applications of hemp. At the plenary session Dr. Nessa Winston, Associate Professor in Social Policy spoke about the CCAT project and other projects relevant to the UN SDGs, especially around sustainable communities. A poster session was held on the 4th floor atria of the Science Centre and CCAT displayed 2 posters in relation to our work. This session was an opportunity to showcase the project and our research plans. It also provided a valuable networking opportunity with colleagues researching climate change.
On 23rd Jan. as part of the Earth Institute’s coffee morning events, Bruno de Andrade, one of the CCAT team members gave a presentation. He spoke about his research in GeoGames and GeoDesign and plans to use these methods to engage coastal communities in adapting to climate change.
